The JOMO™ Digital Declutter Workshop
Social media invites unlimited, unrelenting comparison. In this talk, we unpack the pitfalls of social contagion (wanting what others have) and unlock the simple game-changing strategy that stops it. Studies show that people who are happiest with technology use it differently. Based on Christina’s extensive one-on-one work exploring values and goal setting, participants assess how their values align or misalign with their tech use, learn the principles of digital well-being and take practical steps to declutter their devices in real-time.

Embracing the Joy of Missing Out to Educate and Learn in a World of Digital Overwhelm
Today’s student has never existed without technology; as a result, we know that their attention spans are low, and their learning styles demand entertainment. We also know they are aware of their distraction and experiencing more digital overwhelm than ever. In this talk, Christina Crook will help us explore aligning our values with intentional technology use in and out of the classroom to prioritize well-being, engagement and academic success. What if we can learn from the months and years of the pandemic, not as a brief deviation from our steady march toward a promised destination but as a valuable lesson in digital technology’s limitations and the kind of educational experience we really want?

A word from Christina
Being a high-achieving professional is an amazing accomplishment, but like all good things in life, it comes with challenges. How do you negotiate your big, busy lives without succumbing to burnout, loneliness, and the ever-present forces of FOMO -- the fear of missing out?
When we play on a bigger stage, our challenges get bigger too. I believe that as humans, we were never meant to take on challenges this big alone. That’s why understanding JOMO is so important.
Clients consistently say that the biggest thing I bring to my presentations is PRESENCE. I have the ability to connect with people IMMEDIATELY and find COMMONALITIES that make me extremely relatable.
As a recognized international speaker, I’ve worked hard to create a message about how joy exists at the intersection of success and well-being that is actionable, fulfilling, and resonant. To me, the most important part of talking about JOMO to any audience is recognizing the wonderful elements that make every human capable of joy: our yearning for real human connection, our desire to achieve goals, and our ability to thrive because of- not in spite of- our imperfections.
My presentations will directly engage your audience through activities I’ve honed in workshops and one-to-one consultations across North America. Beyond that, I’ll ask your group to engage in simple but meaningful and vital self-reflection exercises that will give them the awareness to navigate their own journey to reclaiming joy.
It’s a common misconception that JOMO is about rejecting technology and cutting the cord. I am not against technology- it’s a wonderful tool and a triumph of human innovation that has improved the lives of countless people. But I believe that a good life in our modern world requires us to reclaim the role of the decider in our relationship with technology; I inform and empower audiences with up-to-date research, an exploration of the role of the elements of JOMO in diverse cultures across history, and relatable ways we can all move towards a more intentional life.
I look forward to meeting your organization and coming together to talk about the things that make us joyful as human beings; the ways we can come together in support, insight, and self-awareness to thrive in the modern world. Let’s experience the Joy of Missing Out -- together.
